Review – Crystal Eclipse double ended dildo vs. njoy pure wand

It’s a pure wand knockoff!

Nah, not really. The Crystal Eclipse double ended glass anal prober – why are these ridiculously convoluted names still A Thing? – is a pretty, lightweight curve of glass with a shape very, very, very similar to the njoy pure wand. I tried to write this review without ever mentioning the pure wand when I first got it like months ago but it was HOPELESS so here we are with a comparison. Hooray!

Stats-wise, the the pure wand weighs a whopping 680g (!!!) with the big bulb measuring 5 inches around and the small 3.2, while the crystal eclipse clocks in at 4 inches around the largest and 3.5 around the small. I didn’t weigh it, but it’s lighter than my iphone. Personally, I still prefer the proportions of the pure wand overall because I like big shiny things in my butt and smaller shiny things in my vag, but the the light weight of the crystal eclipse makes it more user-friendly to people with wrist issues, and I find I don’t need as much warm up.

The crystal eclipse’s leaner with a less extreme curve and again, is considerably lighter than the pure wand, which is almost too much for my flimsy noodle arms to handle. A not-insignificant amount of the time I end up finishing before I’ve actually finished, if you get my drift, because a) I’m lazy b) it’s too much work and c) the sound of my wrist cracking with every jiggle is a little offputting at best and gruesome at worst. The pure wand is undoubtedly a glorious feat of sex toy engineering, but I still feel like I’m not getting the best out of it unless I’m feeling particularly hench that day or have someone to enthusiastically crank it away for me, whereas the crystal eclipse is nearly weightless. The orgasms I get from the pure wand are undeniably better, but if I’m tired and just want to get off then the crystal eclipse is what I go for.

Speaking of orgasms, the ones the crystal eclipse gives me are lovely, lovely, lovely. I use the small end most often and it only needs a slight tilt before it finds my g-spot; I don’t so much batter it into submission like I do with the pure wand as I do gently and repeatedly pat it. The larger end is good for a loose-wristed upwards grinding motion and there’s enough room for the use of an external vibe too (this + we-vibe touch = that emoji with the sparkly heart), but it’s not great for double penetration if I’m using it in my butt; the only thing I had relative success with was the Tantus Slow Drive due to the smaller teardrop shaped base.

I mentioned that I use the crystal eclipse if I’m feeling lazy and this is mainly because it’s featherlight, but also because it gets really, really slippery over time. Lube seems to run right off whichever end of the pure wand I’ve got in my hand, but it gets smeared around the eclipse and it becomes difficult to use  – this is one of those toys where precision’s key and it’s a bit meh if it’s not right where you want it. It just sort of clanks clumsily around in my vagina otherwise.

I wish this didn’t look as uncle terry as it does

I don’t talk about price as much as I should in reviews – usually I think you can tell if I think something’s worth the money and sometimes I plain forget – but the main selling point for the crystal eclipse over the pure wand is the super low price tag: £19.99 at Lovehoney, compared to the ninety nine pounds and ninety nine pence you’re expected to hand over for the njoy. If my pure wand broke in a freak accident or was stolen by a group of randy sex toy thieves I definitely couldn’t afford another one, but £20? It’s okay. That’s doable. A lot of the time I see the ‘it’s an investment, save up’ thing bandied about but that’s assuming you’ve actually got enough left over at the end of the month to add something to your dildo money jar – I’m not trying to make the price of the pure wand into a social issue complete with prints and protests or anything, but it’s outright unattainable for most people I know and this is a good alternative.

So.

Is it better than the pure wand? Nah. Does it have a mesmerising shiny finish? A bit. Does it give me very, very, very good orgasms? Yup.

It doesn’t leave me lying in a puddle of my own sweat like the pure wand does, but it’s the most frequently used piece of glass in my toolbox and if you can’t summon £100 from nowhere for your own c-curve of stainless steel (I will literally never stop going on about how expensive they are, you try and stop me) then this is a bloody good bet. You can check out my original review of the pure wand here, too.

You can get either of these, your choice, from these nice retailers below:

It’s such a shame that Lovehoney is disconnecting this toy. It seems like a viable alternative for those on a budget.

Sweet jesus, if Lovehoney discontinue one more item that I dearly love I am marching to their warehouse and liberating their stock.
